Conference Information for delegates and speakers

Drinks reception, Monday 12th November

This will take place at the Novotel, Fishergate, York, YO10 4FD between 17:00 - 19:00; drinks and canapes will be served. A registration desk will be situated in the Novotel reception and Conference Packs will be available.

Transport

CSL is in Sand Hutton, just outside York. If you are travelling to CSL by car we require details of your car and registration number to ensure a parking place is available.

If you intend to get the conference arranged coach from York city please note the following details: The coaches will be leaving from outside the Hilton Hotel, Tower Street, opposite Cliffords Tower, see map at the following link: Map of Hilton Hotel, Tower Street, York

Coaches will leave York for CSL at the following times:
Tuesday 13th November - 08:45

Wednesday 14th - Friday 16th November - 08:30
Coaches will return to the Hilton, each evening, immediately after the last presentation.

Assistance during the conference

Information for oral presentations

  1. Presentations may only be given as PowerPoint presentations.
  2. Prepare your presentation as a single PowerPoint file to run on an IBM compatible computer as a Microsoft Office 2000 format file. Computers available at the meeting will run PowerPoint 2000. Files created in subsequent versions of PowerPoint will run although not all enhanced functionality of these versions is assured. Save your file as a normal PowerPoint file (.ppt). Do not save your file as a PowerPoint Show (.pps) file.
  3. All presentations must run on the Windows operating system. Conference computers will run on Windows XP Professional. If at all possible, please create your presentation on the same version of Windows or at least test it on this version before submitting it.
  4. PowerPoint presentations must be submitted in advance of the conference by e-mail to by Friday 9th November, with a copy to Please name your PowerPoint file with the full name of the presenting author
  5. If you are unable to submit your presentation by the due date as a result of technical difficulties, special arrangements will need to be made. Please contact by Thursday, 8th November.
  6. Bring one copy of your presentation to the conference on a CD-ROM or USB media storage device. This copy is to be used as a backup by you and the conference organisers if required. As an additional backup measure, we suggest saving an extra copy of your presentation on your web-accessible local server.
  7. Conference organisers will load all presentations on conference computers. Presenters will NOT be allowed to use their own laptop computers. MacIntosh computers will NOT be available.
  8. All presenters will be given the opportunity to check their presentations on-site, before their presentation time. You are encouraged to review your presentation, especially if it has any special or technically complex elements.
  9. Open presentations have been allocated 25 minutes including time for questions; you should thus limit your presentation to 20 minutes in order to allow 5 minutes for questions and discussion.
  10. Invited plenary presentations have been allocated 30 minutes including time for questions; you should thus limit your presentation to 25 minutes in order to allow 5 minutes for questions and discussion.
